Horseback Safety

Horseback riding is a learning art. You must know how to get around a horse. That means you should be aware at all times of where the horse is and what it is doing. You always want to be ready for anything. Never stand behind a horse as he may kick, or step on you. Before you start out to ride, make sure the horse is ready before you leave.

Remember to get your riding gear. Learn how to tie your horse up so it will not get away from you. Your horse needs to be groomed every time you get on it. Make sure to brush your horse so that there is nothing left on its back as that could cause sores. Learn how to saddle your horse the correct way. Some horses are spooked easily, so when you put your saddle on it, stand on its left side close to its front, and throw the saddle over its back. You will need to reach down and get the cinch and bring it across the front of its stomach. Adjusting your stirrups are a good idea so the horse does not get away from you. Always make sure you are talking to the horse as that keeps it calm.

Make sure you are wearing the proper shoes, and you have the proper clothing as that will keep you from being sore or all scratched up. You should always make sure you have all the proper equipment. Horseback riding can be very fun, but safety is always first.
