Farming has been a way of life for humans ever since the beginning of civilization. Farmers are people who raise or manage useful animals or plants. This is usually done to market the the food and materials produced from their crops and livestock. There are many different types of farmers, separated by what they grow. However, there are many farmers who take care of several different animals and plants on the same farm.
A poultry farmer raises a variety of birds, including turkeys, chickens, and ducks. Poultry farms usually specialize in either meat production or egg production, but these aren’t the only products that come from poultry. The soft feathers of ducks and geese are harvested to be used in pillows and clothing. The manure from these birds is also a valuable commodity.
Another type is a dairy farmer. They raise cattle and collect the milk they produce. Milk is needed to make a variety of products such as cheese, butter, and ice cream. A common breed of dairy cow that is used for this is the Holstein, a black and white cow whose image is commonly associated with dairy products.
Running a dairy farm requires a lot of work. Most of these farmers start early in the morning and work every day of the week. They have to clean their milking equipment regularly in addition to feeding and maintaining their cattle.
