Horseback Riding

Horseback riding can be one of the most entertaining and enjoyable experiences of your life, it just requires a little planning and training. You will need to practice how to ride a horse, lessons are suggested but at least learn from someone who is experienced and knowledgeable. You will also need to learn the language. Then you will need to have the right outfit for yourself. With this taken care of learn the etiquette of the trail.

During your training you will learn about tack, which is the equipment for you and your horse. This will include the halter, bridle, bit and saddle for the horse. If you are riding with a guided tour or renting a horse for the trip, the horses tack will most likely be provided. For you it will be the proper boots, comfortable and protective clothes, and the proper headgear. There are three types or genders of horses, the mare is a female, the stallion is an unneutered male and the gelding is a neutered male. As a beginner you will stay with a mare or gelding as they are gentler.

With your training complete you need to plan your trip. If you are going trail riding you need to decide if you are going to have a guided ride or if you want to just go with friends. Either way you need to stay on the trail and not take short cuts. Riding through unknown fields can have hidden wire, holes in the ground, and other unseen obstacles. You also need to be courteous to hikers, bikers and cars. Now you are prepared for fun in the outdoors on horseback.
