Western Style Living

What is it about the western lifestyle that draws so many? That’s hard to say, but this lifestyle that was romanticized in books, poems, movies and even by “The Duke” himself, John Wayne, is becoming more and more popular every day. Could it be that people are longing for a simpler way of life? Is it that they want more wide open space, instead of living on top of their neighbors in the city? That varies by individual families. But, there are some very appealing things about the western lifestyle.

In the past, those living the western lifestyle would tend to have more conservative values and preferences. They would typically attend church every Sunday and value their right to bear arms. A western lifestyle is generally much slower paced, with those that choose the western lifestyle preferring to spend an evening on the back porch or on the trail with the horses, instead of going to the opera or a noisy disco. But these lines are becoming more and more blurred. As cities encroach on the country, these things are changing, with more options being available. This goes both ways, however, with more and more people choosing to spend time at vacation ranches or dude ranches.

Those that are interested in the western lifestyle can find lots of information in books, magazines and even in cowboy poetry. Cowboy poetry started with cowboys telling stories around a campfire. Now, these stories have found their way into the mainstream with movies and television shows. Magazines, such as American Cowboy, have lots of information for those who want to live the western lifestyle. You can find everything from clothing, to home furnishings, to recipes and information about rodeos.
