The western United States has a reputation for cattle ranches and cowboys. It is an impression that is encouraged throughout the history of film making in Hollywood. It is a cultural past that is both true and exaggerated. The mixture of Asian and Hispanic cultures with that of European ones created a large variety of distinction among the culture of western America.
From John Wayne to Gene Autry there are multiple movies that create an image of western American culture that portrays it as the rough riding, cattle ranching place most people envy. The truth is there was much war and intercultural mingling taking place in the lifestyle of early Americans living in the West. Today that lifestyle barely exists. There are of course still cattle ranches and farms in existence but Western culture has changed drastically in America from what it was its earlier years.
Today western American culture is full of what is called Individualism. Everyone is always trying to be their own person and they do so in mass production. In all actuality everyone ends up the same. Americanism is a term that is coined for much of our pop culture as it is spread from the western United States to other parts of the world and the things that come out of Hollywood and other Western states creates the culture that represents the country and the West.
The lifestyle of western America has changed repeatedly over the years. The different cultures that have intermingled have greatly added to the variety and richness of Western American culture today.
