There are many different factors that mark the western lifestyle. The western lifestyle has its own clothing, music, entertainment, animals, gear, and jobs. Traditional western clothing usually means denim jeans, cotton t-shirts, cowboy hats, and boots. Leather chaps and gloves are also considered trademark western clothing.
Traditional western music is rooted in an earthy bluegrass or country sound. It usually deals with real life subjects that people can relate to. Sometimes it is happy, and sometimes it is sad, however, it is usually based on real life. Traditional western music is also usually good for dancing, as dancing is a favorite form of entertainment in the traditional western lifestyle.
Rodeos, barn dances, blue grass bands, trail rides, hunting, and fishing are forms of entertainment for the traditional western lifestyle. Rodeos are competitions for cowboys and cowgirls to display their riding and roping skills. Event competitions may include staying on a bucking horse or bull for eight seconds. Another competition may be barrel racing, in which a rider has to run a horse around three different barrels without tipping them over. Steer roping is another rodeo competition.
Traditional western riding gear includes a saddle, bridles, bits, halters, and saddle blankets. The gear also includes brushes, horseshoes, saddle bags, canteens, something to hold horse feed, rope, and rifle scabbards for hunting.
The traditional western lifestyle is no picnic. It is rewarding, but it is full of hard work. Birthing horses, birthing cattle, making sure the cattle are taken to areas where there is plenty of feed, making sure the horses have the proper care, taking the cattle to market, having enough business savvy and innovative endeavors to balance the price of cattle at market with the expenses of running the ranch, and much more goes into working a ranch.
