In 1865, the first original cowboy hat was intended as a joke by Mr. Stetson but ended up being truly functional. It's wide brim was meant to be funny but yet it ended up working great for sun protection on hot days or as protection on rainy or snowy days. Amazingly the first cowboy hat wasn't made of straw. It was made by weaving fur. Even though it was meant as a joke Mr. Stetson he continued to wear it and then he started to make quantities of these hats. The first on of his hats was sold for five dollars. You can't get one for that now!
Even though the hats originally started out as a large brimmed woven fur hat they later were made of felt and straw. The cowboy hat became a popular but purposeful hat for cattlemen and ranchers for sun protection and other types of rough weather. Even though they are functional on a ranch or for working they are also used by men and women alike for dressing up and going out.
One of the main but basic things most women know is you don't mess with a man's hat, especially a cowboy hat! From little kids to grown ups these hats can have extremely wide price ranges and styles. All depending on a person's preference and willingness to spend either lots of money or just a moderate amount. The amount you spend should depend on the purpose of the hat, whether it's for work or to look nice for a night on the town.
