When you think of farming, you probably envision men on tractors or rows of wheat waiving in the breeze. City dwellers probably can’t imagine what farm life would be like, except for what they’ve seen on “Green Acres.”
Farming is tough, grueling work and often the money earned is not nearly sufficient. However, money’s not everything. Like any work, farming has it good points and it’s bad. Farmers usually work from dawn until dusk. They get dirty, they sweat in the summer and freeze in the winter and weather conditions can make or break the crop. Even though they’re the backbone of America, farmers often feel unappreciated and forgotten. When you look at what’s important in life, farming is satisfying and self-gratifying work.
Farmers are usually their own bosses making their own schedules according to the seasons and market demand. They don’t have to put up with the corporate gobbledygook that’s experienced in a high-rise office building. They’re one with the land, getting back to nature and what’s been handed down from generation to generation. Also, spending time in the field gives you a chance to really think and reflect.
Farmers have a passion about the work they’re doing and a real love for the land. They have the satisfaction of knowing that they’re providing a great service by supplying food to feed the country’s citizens.
